Real Estate Connect SF

James is visiting the Inman real estate conference July 13-15th

This was my first time at the world real estate conference held in San Francisco, it is an intensive 3 days of speakers and presentations and with stands from some of the biggest real esate software suppliers as well as new start up companies.

I don’t want to spend too much time on every topic that was discussed but in my opinion they have a problem at conferences like these where they tend to follow the latest ‘shinny thing’ those of you that know me would know what I mean, it simply a case of following the latest new gizmo as if there is nothing else! At the risk of forgetting business fundamentals, sometimes I wonder if we even remember them. Things like;

  • Look someone in the eye when talking to them,
  • A firm hand shake
  • Doing what we say we will do
  • Answering our emails

The real estate business is about finding a home or selling a home for real people and we should not lose sight of that, treat people just like you would like to be treated.

One of the youngest presenter’s made the point really well when he said no amount of social media manipulation will make a bad service any better!

From a IT point of view I am very happy with the systems that New Zealand real estate companies have. In the USA a lot of the services that we provide in a single system OSL Office are provided using many separate systems, e.g. one system for CRM, another for email marketing, another for TXT marketing, another for window cards and I haven’t even mentioned the document management systems!

So I am very pleased to know that in Australia and New Zealand we are providing absolutely world class solutions to the real estate industry.
Will I go next year? Well Kay and I did really enjoy the great hospitality of the people of San Francisco  J
